Two things I can’t help doing
Every time I’m in Penn Station I have to see when the next train to Port Washington departs.
Every time I go to au bon pain I order the same sandwich. Turkey with honey mustard, brie, onion, lettuce and tomato on a baguette. This used to be my “work sandwich” back in the SAM days. Now it’s my official sandwich of Amtrak.
I’ve been doing this for over 17 years, that it’s been that long I just figured today. I still think of it as a “novel” sandwich. shrug
Like iwantsandy, drop.io has had a “successful” exit and is shutting its doors in a remarkably short amount of time, leaving users in a lurch. Yes, there are alternatives, but that’s not the point. When one goes with a given app/site/solution, it’s generally because the alternatives are lacking. Same here. So I’ll take my data somewhere else, but come on Facebook/Drop.io: this is no way to treat a user base.
This is two times I’ve been let down. I used Sandy regularly, and I’ve still not found a decent substitute (going on two years now). I use drop.io on an almost daily basis, for quick shares it’s much better than anything else out there. Luckily I sensed a disturbance in the force (or rather had a sleepless night a few weeks ago when I realized that important for my lab was being shared in a way that was not simple to back up) and had just finished a weak homebrew alternative on which no one can pull the plug.
So congrats, and screw you, to drop.io. Way to go.
Tonight’s Rocky Horror Glee knocked the air out of me.
Or I should say, brought back the summer of 1995 and holy shit, 15 years in the mirror and it shines.
We (LGMA) were supposed to be the band for the illegal production of the RHPS at Levels, we forgot about it until Larry told us the show was a go in three weeks. Wei-Min wasn’t there (sleeping on a rock bed or something) so we (Andy, Nick, and I) subbed Donna and then pulled in Ahdoot on keyboards. With nothing but a bootleg cassette we learned the songs and practiced the shit out of that show. Having recently achieved drivers licenses we also drove around town shouting “OBSERVE” at the observant (with a karate chop for random emphasis) and pestering the kind waitress at the IHOP at 3 AM.
So there was that, and there was this.
I was also taking physics in Flushing and we were practicing at Donna’s house. Coming back one day I took the train to Little Neck. It was very, very hot. One of those ridiculous NY hot days where it’s 100 degrees, humid and yet there’s no sun. Anyhow, I was walking up the hill. About to pass out. A jeep pulls up next to me, and That Gorgeous Girl from my homeroom that couldn’t possibly recognize me, says
“Hey, I know you, do you want a ride to wherever you’re going?”
At the late night, double feature, picture show.
