Bad Startup Exits, continued

Like iwantsandy, drop.io has had a “successful” exit and is shutting its doors in a remarkably short amount of time, leaving users in a lurch. Yes, there are alternatives, but that’s not the point. When one goes with a given app/site/solution, it’s generally because the alternatives are lacking. Same here. So I’ll take my data somewhere else, but come on Facebook/Drop.io: this is no way to treat a user base.

This is two times I’ve been let down. I used Sandy regularly, and I’ve still not found a decent substitute (going on two years now). I use drop.io on an almost daily basis, for quick shares it’s much better than anything else out there. Luckily I sensed a disturbance in the force (or rather had a sleepless night a few weeks ago when I realized that important for my lab was being shared in a way that was not simple to back up) and had just finished a weak homebrew alternative on which no one can pull the plug.

So congrats, and screw you, to drop.io. Way to go.
